The Charlie Appleyby-trained Walton Street (6 g ex Brom Felinity by Encosta De Lago) showed his high-class ability when posting his first win since February 2018 in the Godolphin Stakes (Listed, 1m4f) at Newmarket on Friday and in the process became late Darley stallion Cape Cross’ (Green Desert) 120th stakes winner.

The six-year-old gelding is lightly raced considering his age, with Friday’s race only his 14th career start and he chalked up the fourth win on his CV with a length and a half victory over Aloe Vera (Invincible Spirit). Laafy (Noble Mission) finished another five and a half lengths away in third.

The gelding is one of four winners and first stakes winner out of Australian-bred Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Brom Felinity, who won three times headed by victories in the Werribee Cup (Listed, 2000m) and the Matriarch Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m) in 2006. Brom Felinity was purchased by Ebor Bloodstock for 15,000gns at 2016 Tattersalls July Sale.

Brom Felinity herself is a daughter of 1993 Edward Manifold Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Brompton Cross (El Qahira), making her a sister to Delago Boom, who took out the Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) in 2003.

Further back 2015 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic (Gr 2, 1600m) winner My Poppette (Snippetson), fellow Australian Group 2 winner Neo (One Cool Cat) and Ping Hai Star (Nom Du Jeu), who took out the Hong Kong Derby (Listed, 2000m) in 2018, also feature on the page.

Cape Cross’ progeny is headed by 13 Group 1 winners and he died in 2017, aged 23.
