The familiar team of Aidan O’Brien, Seamie Heffernan and Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) teamed up to land another stakes race on Sunday as Dawn Patrol (3 c ex Gwynn by Darshaan) took out the Loughbrown Stakes (Gr 3, 2m) at the Curragh which saw the stallion’s stakes tally climb to 329 - a day after his 328th stakes winner came.

The three-year-old colt had the dream trip up the fence and as a gap opened he took advantage to come away with a three-quarter length victory over Barrington Court (Mastercraftsman). Mighty Blue (Authorized) was a further length away in third.

The colt is out of the unraced Darshaan (Shirley Heights) mare Gwynn making him a half-brother to 2011 Derby (Gr 1, 1m4f) winner Pour Moi (Montjeu), Listed winner Kissed (Galileo), Group 3 winner Gagnoa (Sadler’s Wells), who in turn produced fellow Group 3 scorer Etoile (War Front).

Gwynn herself is a half-sister to the dams of Listed-winning pair Felica (Grass Wonder) and Atlantic Waves (Sadler’s Wells), further back this is also the same family as 2018 Hobart Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) winner Pretty Punk (Rebel Raider).

The colt becomes the 22nd stakes winner bred on the Galileo / Darshaan cross and that cross is headed by Group 1 winner Alandi.

The son of Galileo’s (Sadler’s Wells) progeny is headed by 89 stakes winners and he will be represented in Australia this season by his sire sons Adelaide, Churchill and Highland Reel.
