Royal Address scores at Chantilly
British raider Royal Address (2 f ex Barqueyya by Shamardal) took out Monday’s Criterium de Vitesse (Listed, 1000m) at Chantilly and in doing so provided Dandy Man (Mozart) with his 16th stakes winner.
Trained by William Haggas and owned by Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum, Royal Address started the short-priced favourite and did not disappoint, scoring a length and a half victory over Big Freeze (Chichi Creasy). There was a further two lengths back to Night Hunting (Amarillo), who is raced by It’s All About The Girls Racing syndicate, in third.
Bought for £45,000 at last year’s Goffs UK Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale by Blandford Bloodstock, Royal Address is the first winner out of the once-raced Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) mare Barqeyya. Her second dam is dual Listed winner Almass (Elnadim) who is herself a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Volochine (Soviet Star) as well as the Listed winning trio Kahtan (Nashwan), Ghataas (Sadler’s Wells) and Sakha (Wolfhound).
Dandy Man’s stakes winners are headed by three Group 1 winners including the Hong Kong Sprint (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Peniaphobia. The Ballyhane Stud-based Dandy Man stood for a fee of €15,000 in 2020.
