Keats wins the Navigation Stakes
The peerless Coolmore Stud sire Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) chalked up his 330th stakes winner on Tuesday as Keats (3 c ex Airwave by Air Express) landed a much deserved Listed win in the Navigation Stakes (Listed, 1m¼f) at Cork.
Last seen finishing second in the Listowel Stakes (Listed, 1m1f), the Aidan O’Brien-trained Keats grabbed the lead inside the final furlong to beat Free Solo (Showcasing) by a length and a quarter, while Fame And Acclaim (Acclamation) was another half a length back in third.
The three-year-old colt is out of Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Airwave (Air Express), making him a brother to Group 3 scorer Aloof and Listed winner Orator, while he counts Listed scorer Meow (Storm Cat) as one of his half-siblings.
Meow herself is the dam of multiple Group 1 winner and Coolmore shuttler Churchill (Galileo), who is currently covering his third book of mares at their Hunter Valley base. Meow also produced Group 1 winner Clemmie (Galileo) and Group 3 winner Blenheim Palace (Galileo).
The son of Galileo’s (Sadler’s Wells) progeny is headed by 89 stakes winners and he will be represented in Australia this season by his sire sons Adelaide, Churchill and Highland Reel.
