Zaykava (3 f ex Zarkava by Zamindar) looks to have inherited some of her mother’s enormous talent as she landed the Prix Charles Laffitte (Listed, 2000m) at Compiegne on Friday and in so doing became the 39th stakes winner for her Haras de Bonneval-based sire Siyouni (Pivotal).

The three-year-old filly made a winning debut over course and distance on July 1 and she always looked to be going the best of her rivals, eventually drawing clear to beat Galova (Galiway) by a length and three-quarters. Frankel’s Magic (Frankel) was another head further adrift in third.

The filly is one of four winners and third stakes scorer out of the multiple Group 1-winning champion mare Zarkava (Zamindar), whose progeny is headed by 2017 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Zarak (Dubawi), while she is also the dam of Listed winner Zarkamiya (Frankel).

Zarkava herself is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Zarshana (Sea The Stars), while further back this is the same family as fellow Group 3 scorer Zarkiya (Catrail).

Siyouni is currently the leading sire in France by earnings and he stood at stud for a fee of €100,000 in 2020.
