Fresh from siring this first stakes winner in Australia last Saturday, Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) added another winner to his tally on Monday as his son Skibo Castle (2 c ex Noelani by Indian Ridge) broke his maiden over six furlongs at Kempton, which saw his number total number of first-crop winners swell to 15, with the colt becoming the 14th northern hemisphere-bred.

The two-year-old finished last of nine runners on his debut at Goodwood on July 28, before finishing sixth on his next start at Haydock on September 3, but he finally got his head in front, when coming out on top of a close finish to beat Pure Dreamer (Oasis Dream) by a short-head, while the pair pulled another five and a half lengths ahead of Neminos (Showcasing) in third.

Purchased by Alexander Cole for €130,000 at the 2019 Arqana Deauville October Yearling Sale, Skibo Castle becomes the third winner out of 2005 Renaissance Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) winner Noelani (Indian Ridge).

Noelani herself is a daughter of Listed winner Dawnsio (Tate Gallery) and she is also the dam of Namid (Indian Ridge), who landed the Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (Gr 1, 1000m) in 2000.

Dawnsio is also the grandam of Group 3 winner Policy Of Truth (Siyouni) and Listed scorer Siberian Iris (Excelebration).

Shalaa got off to a good start in Australia, with his son Shaquero landing the Breeders' Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) on the first weekend of juvenile stakes racing and he is currently standing at Arrowfield Stud for a fee of $33,000 (inc GST).
