The now Coolmore Stud-based sire Wootton Bassett’s (Iffraaj) remarkable season continued on Thursday as his daughter Speak Of The Devil (3 f ex Moranda by Indian Rocket) ran out a ready winner of the Prix De Saint-Cyr (Listed, 1400m) at Longchamp and in the process handed her sire with his 16th stakes winner.

The Fabrice Chappet-trained filly has produced some good performances this season, including finishing a nose behind Dream And Do (Siyouni) in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (Gr 1, 1600m) in June, but she managed to add some valuable black-type to her record when beating Mageva - who is also by Wootton Bassett - by half a length. Kraquante (Bated Breath) was another three lengths further away in third.

The filly was purchased by Meridian International for €45,000 at the 2017 Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale and then was bought by her trainer for €62,000 at the Arqana Deauville October Yearling Sale.

She is out of winning Indian Rocket (Indian Ridge) mare Moranda, whose four winners are headed by three-time Group 3 scorer Morando (Kendargent).

Moranda herself is out of Spain (Bering) - the dam of dual Group 3 scorer Myasun (Panis) and Listed winner Matwan (Indian Ridge), who in turn produced two-time Group 3 winner Batwan (Kendargent) and Listed scorer Wanaway (Galiway).

Spain is also the grandam of Lacarolina (Charge d'Affaires).

Wootton Bassett stood at Haras d'Etreham for nine seasons before being purchased by the global powerhouse Coolmore and Wooded joins Audarya and Almanzor as the stallion’s other elite level winners. Almanzor shuttles to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand and he is currently standing for a fee of NZ$30,000 (plus GST).
