Poetic Flare takes out Killavullan Stakes
Darley Stud-based Dawn Approach (New Approach) was handed his 13th stakes winner on Saturday as Poetic Flare (3 c ex Maria Lee by Rock Of Gibraltar) proved superior to his rivals in the Killavullan Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Leopardstown.
The three-year-old colt made a winning debut at Naas in March, before finishing tenth in the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) last weekend, but he regained the winning thread when beating Zaffy’s Pride - who is by former Coolmore Stud shuttler Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) - by two and a half lengths, with Mexico City (No Nay Never) a further three and three-quarters of a length further back in third.
Out of the unraced Rock Of Gibraltar (Danehill) mare Maria Lee, Poetic Flare is a three-quarters brother to Glamorous Approach (New Approach).
The colt’s third dam is Saviour (Majestic Light), who in turn produced Listed winner Graduated (Royal Academy) and Speirbhean (Danehill) - the dam of dual Group 1 winner and successful sire Teofilo (Galileo), Group 2 scorer Poetic Charm (Dubawi) and Bean Feasa (Dubawi).
Dawn Approach shuttled to Australia for five seasons and now stands exclusively at the operation's Kildangan Stud in Ireland where his fee in 2020 was advertised as €10,000.
Nice colt - Poetic Flare (Dawn Approach) was last seen in the Dewhurst and the short turnaround proves no problem in the Group 3 Killavullen Stakes for Kevin Manning and Jim Bolger @LeopardstownRC
