Noble Heidi takes out Preis der Winterkonigin

The Henk Grewe-trained Noble Heidi (2 f ex Noble Pensee by Orpen) produced an impressive performance to win the Preis der Winterkonigin (Gr 3, 1600m) at Baden-Baden on Sunday and in the process handed Haras du Quesnay-based sire Intello (Galileo) with his 13th stakes winner.

The two-year-old filly surged past Novemba (Gleneagles) in the straight, eventually beating her by three-quarters of a length, while Amazing Grace - who is from the first crop of 2014 Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Protectionist (Monsun) - was another length and a quarter further away in third.

The filly was purchased by Schmelzer for €70,000 at the 2019 BBAG Baden-Baden Premier Yearling Sale, and she is the only winner out of Noble Pensee (Orpen).

Noble Pensee herself is out of Listed-placed mare Turning Leaf (Last Tycoon), making her a half-sister to Group 3 winner Turning Light (Fantastic Light) - the dam of Listed scorer Surrey Star (Dubawi).

Further back this is the family of Listed-placed Taita (Big Shuffle), who in turn produced Group 3-winning trio Thorin (Soldier Hollow), Tai Chi (High Chaparral) and Taraja (High Chaparral), while Listed winner Think Of Me (So You Think) also features on the page.

Intello’s 13 stakes winners include Young Rascal, who won the NE Manion Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) last Autumn. The son of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) stood for a fee of €12,500 in 2020.
