Silvestris leaves it late at Chelmsford


Former Twin Hills shuttler Bobby’s Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) sired this ninth first-crop winner as the Mark Johnston-trained Silvestris (2 c ex Heading North by Teofilo) broke his maiden at the seventh time of asking when scoring over seven furlongs at Chelmsford on Thursday. 

The two-year-old colt had finished second on four occasions, finally got his head in front when beating  Baba Reza (Garswood) by half a length, while Absolute Scenes (Dawn Approach) was another length and a quarter further back in third. 

Purchased by Lanwades Stud for 10,000gns at the 2018 Tattersalls December Foal Sale, before being snapped up by her trainers son Charlie for €13,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sales the following year, the colt is the second winner out of Listed-placed Teofilo (Galileo) mare Heading North. 

The colt’s third dam is placed mare Rock The Boat (Slip Anchor), the dam of Listed winners Heavenly Whisper (Halling) and Gipsy Moth (Efisio), the dam of Group 2 Illustrious Blue (Dansili) and Listed scorer Mullelin (Oasis Dream), who in turn produced Listed winner Tarboosh (Bahamian Bounty). 

Bobby’s Kitten shuttled to Australia for one season in 2017 and now resides exclusively at Lanwades Stud where his in 2020 was advertised as £8,000.
