Arrowfield shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) sired his 17th northern hemisphere-bred winner on Wednesday when the Roger Varian-trained Famille Rose (2 f ex Sarlisa by Rainbow Quest) broke her maiden over seven furlongs at Kempton.

Placed at three prior occasions, Famille Rose raced in midfield before being asked to quicken in the final stages and came away to score a three quarter length victory over River Chorus (Mehmas). Adelita (Territories) was another length and a half back in third.

Bought for £48,000 by Ebonos at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale last year, Famille Rose becomes the third winner for her stakes placed dam who has also produced the Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed filly Sarkiyla (Oasis Dream).

Sarlisa is a daughter of two time winner Sarliya (Doyoun) who is a half-sister to 1990 Lockinge Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Safawan (Young Generation) being out of Safita (Habitat).

Meanwhile Famille Rose’s half-sister Sarzameen (Siyouni) sold for $3,250 at the Inglis Digital March Sale earlier this year having originally been bought by Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock for €35,000 at the 2016 Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale.

Shalaa’s northern hemisphere crop includes three stakes performers in No Speak Alexander, Legal Attack and Saeiqa whilst he has made a good start in Australia this season with Shaquero taking out the Breeders’ Plate (Gr 3, 1000m).
