Haunui Farm shuttler Belardo (Lope De Vega) was handed his 12th first-crop winner on Friday as Gold Family (2 f ex Modern Family by Excellent Art) made a winning debut over 1300 metres at Chantilly.

The two-year-old filly came out on top of a close finish, eventually beating We Get By (Brazen Beau) by a neck, while Allez Burrows (Goken) was another length and three-quarters away in third.

Gold Family is the first winner out of winning Excellent Art (Pivotal) mare Modern Family, who is herself a daughter of Listed winner Ascot Family (Desert Style).

Ascot Family is also the dam of Family One (Dubai Destination), who landed the Prix Robert Papin (Gr 2, 1200m) in 2011.

Ascot Family herself is a daughter of winning mare Family At War (Explodent) - the dam of Listed winner Flanders (Common Grounds), who in turn produced Group 1 winner G Force (Tamayuz) and Group 3 Louvain (Sinndar) - the dam of dual top-flight Flotilla (Mizzen Mast).

Family At War is also the grandam of Group 1 winner Lethal Force (Dark Angel) and Group 2 Juliet Capulet (Dark Angel).

Belardo’s first-crop is headed by stakes trio; Isabella Giles, Lullaby Moon and Elysium and he is standing at Haunui Farm for a fee of NZ$10,000 (plus GST). He has six lots set to sell at next week's New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale.
