A total of 864 entries were received by France Galop on Wednesday for the six French Classics. This figure represents a decrease of about 15 per cent on that of last year, and this trend is found in comparable proportions in all the events, with the exception of the Grand Prix de Paris (Gr 1, 2400m), where the number of candidates is only 5 per cent lower than in 2020.

The 103 entries for the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr 1, 1600m) include unbeaten colt King Shalaa, a son of Arrowfield shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) and Haunui Farm shuttler Belardo (Lope De Vega) is represented by Belloccio. Lloyd Williams meanwhile has two entries in Federal (Zoffany) and Hype (Siyouni), who are both trained by Joseph O’Brien and Sun Bloodstock is represented by Liffey River (Lope De Vega).

Swettenham Stud shuttler Toronado (High Chaparral) has Cash Equity and Rosemont Stud’s Starspangledbanner is represented by State Of Rest and Spangler. Doctor Carl and Royal Air Force are by Fastnet Rock (Danehill) and his Coolmore Australia barnmate American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) has Van Gogh for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

130 entries were received for the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Gr 1, 1600m). Those include the John Gosden trained Star Of Emaraaty (Pride Of Dubai) for owner Teruya Yoshida. Group winning filly Isabella Giles (Belardo).

The Gerry Ryan-owned Normandy Bridge (Le Havre) is entered in both the Poule d’Essai des Poulains and the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr 1, 2100m).
