Fort Payne lands Prix Maurice Caillault

Having finished second in the Prix de la Californie (Listed, 1600m) on February 14, Fort Payne (3 c ex Lady Verde by Meshaheer) broke through at stakes level for the first time when he landed the Prix Maurice Caillault (Listed, 1800m) at Chantilly on Tuesday and in the process became stakes winner number six for Rio De La Plata (Rahy).

The three-year-old colt finished strongly to beat Tokyo Gold (Kendargent) by an emphatic five lengths, while The Laureate (Soldier Hollow) was another three-quarters of a length away in third.

The colt is one of three winners out of Lady Verde (Meshaheer) and this is the same pedigree as dual Group 1 winner and successful sire Kendor (Kenmare) and Group 2-winning pair Hightori (Vettori) and Vatori (Vettori).

Formerly standing at Darley Japan and he was relocated to Ljungstorps Stud in Sweden.
