Highland Avenue lands Feilden Stakes at Newmarket on Tuesday
Darley’s perennial stallion Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) chalked up his 201st stakes winner on Tuesday as Highland Avenue (3 c ex Lumiere by Shamardal) led home a quinella for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin in the Feilden Stakes (Listed, 1m1f) at Newmarket.
A winner of both his starts this season over a mile at Kempton, the three-year-old colt stayed on strongly to beat Secret Protector (War Front) by a comfortable length and a quarter. Royal Champion (Shamardal) was a further six lengths away in third.
Highland Avenue is out of 2015 Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Lumiere (Shamardal) and she is herself a sister to fellow top-flight scorer Sheikha Reika.
Further back this is the same family as dual Grade 1 winner Outstandingly (Exclusive Native) - the dam of Group 2 winner Sensation (Soviet Star), who in turn produced Group 3 scorer Systematic (Rainbow Quest).
Sensation herself is the grandam of Japanese Grade 3 winner Fluky (Redoute’s Choice) and Listed winner Regard Calme (Lord Kanaloa).
Highland Avenue becomes the third stakes winner bred on the Dubawi / Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) cross, joining Group 3 winner One Ruler and Listed scorer Duneflower.
Dubawi has sired 21 stakes winners in Australia, headed by Group 1-winning quartet; Srikandi, Secret Admirer, Tiger Tess, Shamal Wind and Benbatl.
The stallion became the first British-bred stallion to sire 200 stakes winners when Philomene landed the Prix Penelope Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) at Saint-Cloud last week.
Hat-trick!
