99 for Lemon Drop Kid
The Archie Watson-trained Sherbet Lemon (3 f ex Famous by Danehill Dancer) produced a tenacious performance to land a shock win in the Oaks Trial Fillies’ Stakes (Listed, 1m3.5f) at Lingfield on Saturday and in the process handed Lane’s End Farm-based stallion Lemon Drop Kid (Kingmambo) with his 99th stakes winner. Sent off an unfancied 28/1, the three-year-old battled on bravely to beat Save A Forest (Kingman) by three-quarters of a length, while Ocean Road (Australia) was a further length away in third. Purchased by Federico Barberini for US$200,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2019, the filly is out of winning mare Famous (Danehill Dancer), who is herself a sister to multiple Group 1 winner and former Windsor Park shuttler Mastercraftsman. Lemon Drop Kid’s stakes winners are headed by nine elite level winners.

Third stakes winner for Muhaarar
Shadwell Stud’s Nunnery Stud-based sire Muhaarar (Oasis Dream) was handed his third stakes winner on Saturday when the Ralph Beckett-trained Albaflora (4 m ex Almiranta by Galileo) trounced her rivals in the Buckhounds Stakes (Listed, 1m4f) at Ascot. Having been placed in the Musidora Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) on her second career start as three-year-old last season, the four-year-old mare rounded last year with narrow defeat in the Noel Murless Stakes (Listed, 1m6f) and she surged clear in the final stages to beat Tribal Craft (Mastercraftsman) by an impressive seven lengths. Bred and raced by Kirsten Rausing, the filly joins Group 3-winning pair Paix and Mujbar as the stallion’s other stakes winners.

11 for Gleneagles
Coolmore Stud-based sire Gleneagles (Galileo) sired his 11th stakes winner and second stakes winner in a week when the William McCreey-trained Insinuendo (4 m ex Obama Rule by Danehill Dancer) landed the Blue Wind Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) at Naaso on Saturday on only her third career start. The four-year-old mare was purchased by her trainer at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale for €110,000 and she is out of the Group 3-winning Danehill Dancer (Danehill) mare Obama Rule, who is herself a sister to Group 3 winner Osaila, while she is also a half-sister to 2017 Arrowfield Classic winner Dawn Wall (Fastnet Rock). Gleneagles sired his 10th stakes winner on Wednesday when Too Soon To Panic landed the Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes (Listed, 1m1.5f) at Gowran Park. The son of Galileo’s (Sadler’s Wells) progeny is headlined by Group 2-winning trio Royal Dornach, Royal Lytham and Baby Rider and he stood at Coolmore Stud for a fee of €25,000 in 2021.

36 for Manduro
Late Darley-based sire Manduro (Monsun) sired his 36th stakes winner on Saturday when Iresine (4 g ex Inanga by Oasis Dream) landed the Prix Bedel (Listed, 2400m) at Lyon Parilly. After being beaten on debut in July 2020, the gelding has now won last six starts and he sealed his latest victory with a victory over Dawn Intello (Intello). Manduro’s stakes winners are headed by six elite level winners. Manduro died of a heart attack at Darley Stud last year.

66 for Frankel
Juddmonte Farms’ Frankel (Galileo) was provided with his 66th stakes winner when the William Haggas-trained Light Refrain (3 f ex Light Music by Elusive Quality) got her three-year-old career off to the best possible start with a victory in the Kilvington Stakes (Listed, 6f) at Nottingham. Raced by The Queen, the three-year-old filly signed off her two-year-old career with a second place finish in the Rockingham Stakes (Listed, 6f) at York and on Saturday she defeated Last Empire (Pivotal) by a length and three quarters. Frankel has sired seven stakes winners in Australia headed by Group 1-winning duo Hungry Heart and Mirage Dancer.

99 for Choisir
Recently pensioned Coolmore Australia sire Choisir (Danehill Dancer) edged closer to a landmark century of black-type winners when he chalked up his 99th stakes winner courtesy of the Richard Hannon-trained Qaysar’s (6 g ex Coco Demure by Titus Livius) victory in the Spring Trophy Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Lingfield on 29 career start on Saturday. The six-year-old gelding defeated Tomfre (Cable Bay) by a length and a quarter, while Raaeq (Kingamn) was another two lengths further away in third. Choisir was retired from stud duties earlier this year, but he is represented in Australia by his sire sons, Starspangledbanner, who shuttles to Rosemont Stud, Aquis Farm-based pair The Mission and Divine Prophet and Defcon and he is up for sale on the Inglis Digital Early May Online Auction and is catalogued as Lot 310.

Stakes double for Soldier Hollow
The Gestut Auenquelle-based sire Soldier Hollow (In The Wings) sired a stakes double on Saturday when German raider Axana (5 m ex Achinora by Sleeping Indian) added a fifth black-type win to her record in the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Lingfield on Saturday, while Reine D'amour (3 f ex Reine Heureuse, by Big Shuffle) landed a second stakes race when she took out Henkel-Stutenpreis (Listed, 1600m) in Düsseldorf. The pair are two of 48 stakes winners for Soldier Hollow and his progeny are headed by five Group 1 winners, including Ivanhowe, who landed two Group 1s in Australia.
