The late Darley stallion Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) was represented by his 154th stakes winner on Monday when the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Solid Stone (5 g ex Landmark by Arch) won the Royal Windsor Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Windsor.

Having his second start this year, Solid Stone was up on the pace and stayed hard on the standside rail, racing alone, and scored a two and a half length victory. Stormy Antarctic (Stormy Atlantic) finished in second with Qaysar (Choisir) another four and three quarters of a length back in third.

Now the winner of five of his 17 career starts, Solid Stone is a half-brother to dual Listed winner Cameron Highland (Galileo) being out of Landmark (Arch). His second dam is stakes placed mare Kalosca (Kaldoun) who produced five winners headed by dual Grade 1 winner Arravale (Arch).

Shamardal’s stakes winners are headed by 26 Group / Grade 1 winners including Blue Point and Pinatubo who will stand at Darley’s Northwood Park for $44,000 (inc GST) and $22,000 (inc GST) respectively while Earthlight will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside property for $44,000 this season.

The former shuttler died at the age of 18 in April last year.
