Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj) will shuttle to Coolmore Australia for the first time this spring and on Monday he was represented by his fourth Group 1 winner and 18th stakes winner overall when Incarville (3 f ex Ilhabela by Azamour) won the Prix Saint-Alary (Gr 1, 2000m) at Longchamp.

Incarville came into the race having finished second in the Prix Cleopatre (Gr 3, 2100m) three weeks ago and on Monday Christophe Soumilon settled the filly towards the rear of the 11 runners. Switched out to challenge with 600 metres left to run, Incarville got up in the closing stages to score by a head over long time leader Cirona (Maxios). Es La Vida (Soldier Hollow) was the same distance back in third.

“I'm so happy, it's been a long time since I won a Group 1 and I want to thank Gerard Augustin-Normand for his support,” said winning trainer David Smaga said of the Gerard Augustin-Normand-owned filly.

“Besides her first run when she was unplaced, this filly has never run a bad race. Christophe Soumillon gave her a great ride and we will be back in four weeks' time for the Prix de Diane.”

Incarville becomes the first stakes winner for her winning dam Ilhabela (Azamour) who has produced three other winners and is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Vahorimix (Linamix) being out of Listed winner Vadsa Honor (Highest Honor). This is also the family of Irish St Leger (Gr 1, 1m6f) winner Voleuse De Coeurs (Teofilo).

Wootton Bassett’s Group 1 winners include Cambridge Stud shuttler Almanzor as well as Audarya and Wooded. He will stand his first season in Australia for a fee of $71,500 (inc GST).

79 for Iffraaj
Wootton Bassett’s sire, the former Haunui shuttler Iffraaj (Zafonic), sired his 79th stakes winner on Monday’s Longchamp card when Reshabar (4 c ex Rait by Tamayuz) won the Prix de Montretout (Listed, 1600m). The colt scored by a neck from favourite Magny Cours (Medaglia d’Oro) with Irska (Hunters Light) another two lengths back in third.

The winner of three of his 12 starts, Reshabar is the only winner out of Rait (Tamayuz) who is a half-sister to Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed filly Nathra (Iffraaj). His third dam is Old Domesday Book (High Top) who produced July Cup (Gr 1, 6f) winner Owington (Green Desert) with this also being the family of fellow Group 1 winner Dick Whittington (Rip Van Winkle). Iffraaj’s ten Group 1 winners include Ribchester, who replaced his sire at Haunui Farm, Turn Me Loose, Jon Snow and the aforementioned Wootton Bassett.

24 for Nathaniel
After notching up his 23rd stakes winner over the weekend, the Newsells Park-based Nathaniel (Galileo) sired his 24th stakes winner on Monday when Bubble Gift (3 c ex Bubble Back by Grand Lodge) won the Prix Hocquart (Gr 2, 2200m) at Longchamp.

Settled towards the rear under Gerald Mosse, Bubble Gift joined the leaders in the closing 200 metres and then took the lead with 100 metres left to run and held on well to score by a neck over Gregolimo (Galiway). The now Australian Bloodstock-owned Lambo (Protectionist) was another three quarters of a length away in third.

The winner is one of five winners out of unplaced mare Bubble Back (Grand Lodge) who is also the dam of Group 3 and multiple Hong Kong Listed winner Bubble Chic (Chichicastenango) as well as Listed placed mare Queen Bubble (Layman) who is herself the dam of dual Listed winner King Bubble (Kendargent).

Nathaniel’s stakes winners are headed by three Group 1 winners in Enable, God Given and Channel.
