Ebro River lands the National Stakes
Tally-Ho Stud-based first season sire Galileo Gold (Paco Boy) sired his first stakes winner on Thursday when his son Ebro River (2 c ex Soft Power by Balmont) landed the National Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Sandown.
Trained by Hugo Palmer and owned by Al Shaqab - who incidentally also trained and owned the son of Paco Boy (Desert Style) during his racing days, for whom he won two Group 1s.
The colt broke his maiden on his second start when he scored over five furlongs at Doncaster and he built on that performance when he beat Little Earl (Havana Gold) by a comfortable three and a quarter lengths.
Navello (Ivawood) - who was sent off the 2/1 favourite - was another three-quarters of a length away in third.
Purchased by Charlie Gordon-Watson Bloodstock and Al Shaqab for 75,000gns at Book 2 of the 2020 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, the colt is out of winning Balmont (Stravinsky) mare Soft Power and she is herself a half-sister to the dam of dual Group 1 winner Slade Power (Dutch Art).
The colt’s third dam is Group 3 winner Balqis (Advocator) - the grandam of Listed winner Khibrah (Lahib).
Ebro River is one of two winners for Galileo Gold, with the other being Oscula and he stood at Tally-Ho Stud for a fee of €5,000 in 2021.
