Il Grande Gatsby wins over 1400 metres in Rome
Coolmore stallion Churchill (Galileo) sired his first winner on Wednesday when the Mario Giorgi-trained Il Grande Gatsby (2 c ex Irene Watts by Miswaki Tern) won over 1400 metres at Capannelle on Wednesday.
Having his second career start having finished second on debut, Il Grande Gatsby scored a length and a half victory over Raimark (Markaz).
The colt becomes the fourth winner out of Group 3 placed Irene Watts (Miswaki Tern). Further back this is the family of Oceanfast (Monde Bleu), the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Alinghi (Encosta De Lago) and Slice Of Paradise (Encosta De Lago) who in turn produced ill-fated sire Beneteau (Redoute’s Choice).
Churchill has shuttled to Coolmore Australia since 2018 and he will stand the forthcoming season for $22,000 (inc GST), up from $19,250 (inc GST) a year ago. His first Australian-bred crop will be two-year-olds next season.
