Fernando VIchi wins the Nijinsky Stakes
Coolmore Stud sire Australia (Galileo) sired his 18th stakes winner when Fernando Vichi (3 c ex Pernica by Sir Percy) won the Nijinsky Stakes (Listed, 1m4f) at Leopardstown on Thursday.
Trained by Donnacha O'Brien, the colt was last seen finishing third in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial (Gr 3, 1m2f) at Leopardstown on May 9 and on Thursday held on to score a three quarter length victory over favourite, The Mediterranean (Galileo) who is trained by Donnacha's father Aidan. Ruling (Camelot) was the same distance back in third for Joseph O'Brien.
Australia's stakes winners include three Group 1 winners in Mare Australis, Galileo Chrome and Order Of Australia.
Fernando Vichi is back in the winner's enclosure.
