The Marco Botti-trained Encountered (2 c ex Enrol by Pivotal) became the fourth first crop winner for his Coolmore Australia shuttle sire, Churchill (Galileo), when he won at Doncaster on Friday.

Having his second career start having finished third on debut at Haydock last month, Encountered pulled clear in the closing stages to score an impressive four length victory. Implore finished in second (Ulysses) with another three and three quarters of a length back to Atrium (Holy Roman Emperor) in third.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Encountered was bought by Suzanne Roberts for 160,000gns at Book 1 of last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. He becomes the third winner for his stakes placed dam Enrol (Pivotal) who is herself a half-sister to the Listed placed filly Enact (Kyllachy).

Encountered joins Il Grande Gatsby, Papa Cocktail and The Acropolis as Churchill’s first crop winners. He will stand for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST) at Coolmore Australia this spring.
