12 for Mehmas
The Richard Hannon-trained Lusail (2 c ex Diaminda by Diamond Green) won his second consecutive race, and first at stakes level, in the July Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Newmarket on Thursday and in doing so became the 12th stakes winner for his sire Mehmas (Acclamation). Raced by Al Shaqab Racing, Lusail held off the challenge of Asymmetric (Showcasing) to score by a head, with the same distance back to Sam Maximus (Showcasing) in third. Champion first season sire in Europe last year, the Tally Ho Stud-based Mehmas has sired one Group One winner to date in Supremacy and now two Group Two scorers, with Minzaal his first. He currently heads the leading two-year-old sires table in Europe by winners.

209 for Duabwi
Having finished second last start in the Cocked Hat Stakes (Listed, 1m3f) at Goodwood on May 21 behind Lone Eagle (Galileo), the Charlie Appleby-trained Yibir (3 g ex Rumh by Monsun) became the 209th stakes winner for Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) when he won the Bahrain Trophy Stakes (Gr 3, 1m5f) at Newmarket on Thursday. Gelded since his last start and appreciating the step up in trip, Yibir beat Mandoob (Farhh) by two and a half lengths with another three lengths back to Dancing King (Free Eagle) in third.

“Our middle-distance three-year-old division is very strong this year, so we haven’t got any immediate targets for Yibir,” said Appleby. “He is falling into the pack as a horse with very much a four-year-old career and there are a few that we need to map out their autumn campaigns. I am just pleased that he has got his head in front now and he will gain some confidence from that. He is going to be an exciting horse as a four-year-old.”

Yibir is a brother to three-time Group One winner Wild Illusion (Dubawi) being out of Listed winning mare Rumh (Monsun).

Dubawi is currently the leading sire in Europe by stakes winners this season.

81 for Sea The Stars
The William Haggas-trained and Shadwell Estate Company-raced Baaeed (3 c ex Aghareed by Kingmambo) maintained is unbeaten record in the Henry Cecil Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Newmarket on Thursday and in doing so became the 81st stakes winner for his Aga Khan Studs-based sire Sea The Stars (Cape Cross). Under Jim Crowley, Baaeed pulled clear in the final 200 metres to score an impressive four length victory. Maximal (Galileo) finished on for second with One Ruler (Dubawi) another length and a quarter back in third. Baaeed is now unbeaten in three career starts this season. The sire of 14 Group One winners, Sea The Stars has sired five stakes winners from 25 runners in Australia and his winners to runners strike rate in Australia is 60 per cent.

Four for Ribchester
Haunui Farm shuttler Ribchester (Iffraaj) sired his fourth winner on Thursday when the Richard Fahey-trained Nurseclaire (2 f ex Nymeria by Soldier Hollow) broke her maiden on debut over seven furlongs at Carlisle. Starting a 16-1 shot, Nurseclaire beat joint favourite Noonie (Almanzor) by three quarters of a length, with just a short head back to the other joint favourite, Lady Caroline (Teofilo), in third.

The filly is the second foal out of the Listed winner Nymeria (Soldier Hollow) and she was bought for €35,000 by owner Nick Bradley Racing at last year’s Arqana August Yearling Sale from the draft of Haras du Cadran.

Nurseclaire’s half-sister by Darley shuttler Harry Angel (Dark Angel) will be offered by Haras du Cadran at this year’s Arqana August Yearling Sale.
