84 for Lope de Vega
A day after former Patinack Farm shuttler Lope De Vega (Shamardal) sired his 83rd stakes winner, the Charlie Appleby-trained New Science (2 c ex Alta Lilea by Galileo) won the Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Ascot to become the 84th stakes winner for the Ballylinch Stud-based sire.

Having his third career start, New Science took the lead in the closing stages to beat Angel Bleu (Dark Angel) by a length. Cachet (Aclaim) was another three quarters of a length away in third.

New Science was bought for €260,000 by Godolphin at last year’s Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale and is one of two winners out of stakes placed Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Alta Lilea.

Lope De Vega is currently sitting third in the leading sires table in Europe by winners behind Kodiac (Danehill) and Dark Angel (Acclamation), while he is fourth in the table by earnings with that table headed by Frankel (Galileo).

The victory also provided the late multiple champion sire Galileo with his 208th stakes winner as a broodmare sire with 34 of those winning at Group / Grade One level.

30 for No Nay Never
Former Coolmore Australia shuttler No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) sired his 30th stakes winner on Saturday when the Ismail Mohammed-trained Zain Claudette (2 f ex Claudette by Speightstown) won the Princess Margaret Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Ascot.

The filly clenched victory in the closing stages to beat the favourite, Desert Dreamer (Oasis Dream), by a nose, with a neck further back to Delmona (Dandy Man) in third.

Having her third career start, having broken her maiden at Newmarket on June 25, Zain Claudette took her record to two wins and one second.

No Nay Never stood at Coolmore Stud in County Tipperary this year for a fee of €125,000. He shuttled to Australia for four seasons between 2016 and 2019.
