Flaming Rib gets off the mark at Nottingham
Haunui Farm shuttler Ribchester (Iffraaj) sired his second first-crop winner when the Tom Dascombe-trained Flaming Rib (2 c ex Suddenly by Excelebration) got off the mark at the second attempt over five furlongs at Nottingham on Friday.
Last seen finishing third on debut at Ripon, the two-year-old colt comfortably defeated Amazonian Dream (Bungle Inthejungle) by three-quarters of a length, while Sharp Riposte (Bated Breath) was another neck away in third.
The colt was purchased by Sackville Donald for 35,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and he is out of unraced Excelebration (Exceed And Excel) mare Suddenly.
Suddenly herself is out of a Listed-winning mare Soudaine (Monsun), making her a half-sister to Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Savoir Vivre (Adlerflug) and Listed scorer Sussudio (Nayef).
The colt’s third dam is Listed-placed Suivez (Fioravanti) - the dam of Group 2 winner Simoun (Monsun) and Listed winner Soignee (Dashing Blade) - the dam of Group 1 winner Stacelita (Monsun), who in turn produced Japanese Grade 1 winner Soul Stirring (Frankel), while this is also the same family as Group 1 winner Sunny Queen (Camelot).
Flaming Rib joins Ribchester’s other winner Ruthin, who broke her maiden at Keeneland last month.
Ribchester was relocated to Haunui Farm last season having stood his first two seasons in the southern hemisphere at Darley’s Kelvinside base and he will stand the 2021 season for an unchanged fee of NZ$15,000 (plus GST).
The son of Iffraaj’s (Zafonic) first crop of yearlings were well received at the sales with 12 selling for an aggregate $973,198 at an average $81,099.
