Viareggio breaks her maiden handing her sire his 18th winner
Coolmore Stud's Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) sired his 18th first crop winner on Wednesday when Viareggio (2 f ex Just Joan by Pour Moi) broke her maiden over seven furlongs at Cork.
Trained by Jessie Harrington, Viareggio kept on well in the closing stages and scored by a head over Dickochea (Gleneagles). She becomes the first winner out of Just Joan (Pour Moi), a half-sister to Listed winner Tannaaf (High Chaparral) and the stakes placed Danjeu (Montjeu). Bought originally at the 2019 Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 75,000gns, Viareggio was then bought for 65,000gns at Book 1 of last year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by BBA Ireland.
Caravaggio now sits third in the leading first season sires table in Europe by winners behind Cotai Glory (Exceed And Excel) and Profitable (Invincible Spirit).
