The John and Thady Gosden-trained multiple Group One winner Palace Pier (Kingman) has been retired to stud and will stand the 2022 season at Darley's Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket. A fee will be set at a literate.

The son of Kingman (Invincible Spirit), a 600,000 guineas Tattersalls October Yearling Sale - Book 1 purchase, has won nine of his 11 career starts and placed in his other two.

Palace Pier broke his maiden in August 2019 and then won his second and final start at two the following month. He resumed with a win at three in June last year before taking the St James's Palace Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) at Royal Ascot in June. This was followed by victory in the Prix Jacques le Marois (Gr 1, 1600m). In his final start at three, Palace Pier finished third in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Gr 1, 1m).

Palace Pier resumed with a win in the Sandown Mile (Gr 2, 1m) in April this year before his decisive Lockinge Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) victory. This was followed by wins in the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr 1, 1m) and he then defended his crown in the Prix Jacques le Marois.

Palace Pier finished a close second in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes last weekend.

Sam Bullard, Director of Stallions, said: "Palace Pier is a wonderful horse to look at – and he's even more impressive in full flight. He's dominated the hugely competitive mile division for two seasons. He's a very rare talent and we are privileged to be standing him."

Palace Pier is out of unraced mare Beach Frolic (Nayef), who was bought for 2,200,000 guineas by MV Magnier at last year's Tattersalls December Mare Sale. Beach Frolic is a half-sister to Group Two winners Bonfire (Manduro) and Joviality (Cape Cross) being out of Night Frolic (Night Shift).
