Newsells Park Stud has announced that outstanding broodmare Shastye (Danehill) has died after foaling a colt by Dubawi (Dubai Millennium). She was 21.

The daughter of Danehill (Danzig), who has produced six winners from seven foals to race including the Group 1 winning pair Japan (Galileo) and Mogul (Galileo) died after suffering a sudden haemorrhage on Sunday evening.

The winning and stakes placed mare was bought by John Warren Bloodstock for 625,000gns at the 2005 Tattersalls December Mare Sale and her progeny have sold as yearlings in the Tattersalls sales ring for 14,200,000gns.

In 2013 her Galileo colt sold for 3,600,000gns to MV Magnier at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. He was later named Sir Isaac Newton and went on to win at Group 3 level.

Three years later her daughter by Galileo made 1,350,000gns when bought by David Redvers and the following year MV Magnier, Mayfair and Peter and Ross Doyle went to 1,300,000 to secure Japan who would go on to win twice at Group 1 level.

In 2018 MV Magnier bought dual Group 1 winner Mogul for 3,400,000gns and he paid that same price two years later for Shastye's Galileo filly who is named Skylark but is currently unraced.

Newsells Park Stud released a statement which said: The exploits of her progeny, most notably formed from her wonderful partnership with the extraordinary Galileo, gave us all the most unforgettable moments, whether they came amid the silence of a hushed sales ring, or accompanied by the roar of the crowd at Epsom, York, Longchamp or Sha Tin.

"When Newsells Park Stud was put up for sale at the end of 2020, it was Shastye that stood out more than any other mare to prove what was achievable.

"Shastye put Newsells Park Stud back on the map, made the stud commercially successful and helped to attract a new, considerate, enthusiastic and passionate owner in Graham Smith-Bernal to take on the custodianship of the stud for another generation. Rest in peace you wonderful, wonderful lady."
