Multiple Group 1 winner State Of Rest (Starspangledbanner) will stand his first season at stud at Rathbarry Stud in County Cork in 2023 and he is expected to shuttle to Newgate Farm later next year.

The four-time Group 1 winner was retired from racing earlier in the week after an issue was identified following an MRI scan. The four-year-old, who was trained by Joseph O'Brien, won five of his 13 career starts with this Group 1 victories coming in the Prince of Wales's Stakes (1m2f) at Royal Ascot in June, the Prix Ganay (2100m), last year's Cox Plate (2040m) and the Derby Invitational Stakes (9.5f) at Saratoga last August.

A statement released by Rathbarry said: "Rathbarry Stud would like to confirm Joseph O'Brien's statement that State Of Rest will not travel to Australia this year to defend his Group 1 Cox Plate title and that he is retiring to stud for the 2023 breeding season.

"We would like to thank Joseph O'Brien and all his team at Carriganog Racing who have done such a wonderful job in campaigning State Of Rest so successfully at the highest level, including four Group 1 wins across three continents.

"Rathbarry look forward to State Of Rest's arrival at the stud, where he will stand alongside Acclamation, James Garfield and Kodi Bear."
