The future of Pakistan Star's racing career hangs in the balance after he refused to race again on Sunday at Sha Tin. Lining up for new trainer Paul O'Sullivan, the 6-year-old jumped well in the Jockey Club Sprint (Group 2) but then refused to race any further than about 100 metres. The European-bred son of Shamardal is now unlikely to race again in Hong Kong.

Chief steward Kim Kelly confirmed he asked O'Sullivan to consult owner Kerm Din over his preferred future for the 2 time Group 1 winner, before reporting back to the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

"The trainer of Pakistan Star was told that before the stewards give consideration to the horse's racing future in Hong Kong, he may consult the owner of Pakistan Star and advise the stewards accordingly in the near future as to what the intention is for the horse," Kelly told the South China Morning Post.

"Depending on the outcome of that discussion, the stewards then will give consideration to the horse's racing future in Hong Kong."
