The first day of the Arqana Autumn Sale in Deauville on Tuesday saw 161 lots sold for €5,607,500 at an average of €34,829 and median of €14,000.

This year's opening day saw strong increases compared to the opening session of the 2018 renewal during which 163 lots sold for €3,861,300 at an average of €23,689 and median of €10,000. The 2019 aggregate was up 45%, average up 47% and median up 40% compared to the 2018 figures.

The session was topped by dual Grade 1 winning hurdler Master Dino who was purchased for €420,000 by Herve Bunel of Agence BHB.

Of the flat offerings, lot 183, Mount Popa, a winner of 2 and placed in 8 of his 10 starts was bought by agent Stephen Hillen for €200,000 and will head to Australia to be trained by Team Hawkes. Offered by trainer Pascal Bary he is a son of Coolmore Stud's Maxios.

A few lots earlier Narvick International and De Burgh Equine purchased Scarlet Tufty for €120,000. Catalogued as Lot 176, the 3-year-old son of Siyouni has raced 6 times for 2 wins and 2 placings. He is another destined for Australia.

"He's been bought for an existing client to go to Australia," said Narvick International's Emmanuel de Seroux.

"He's by Siyouni who is a world-class stallion. He's got tactical racing speed, and he is a great mover. He'll go straight to Australia and be aimed at the 10 furlong Group races down there, which have amazing prize-money."

The sale continues tomorrow with 2-year-old stores and National Hunt yearlings. Wednesday's concluding session will see the sale of flat yearlings. The first day of the Arqana Autumn Sale in Deauville on Tuesday saw 161 lots sold for €5,607,500 at an average of €34,829 and median of €14,000.
