The Goffs November Foal Sale 2019 Part 1 got underway at Kildare Paddocks on Monday with the session topped by a son of Coolmore Australia shuttler Caravaggio. 

Sold by Altenbach Bloodstock as lot 88, the bay colt was purchased by Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock for €100,000. He is out of the winning Cape Cross mare Cape Joy who has produced 1 winner from 1 runner to date. Caravaggio, a son of Scat Daddy, shuttles to Coolmore's Australian base where his 2019 fee was set at $27,500 (inc GST).

Starspangledbanner was responsible for the day's second highest price with Lynn Lodge Stud going to €88,000 to secure lot 262 late on in the day. The bay colt is the first foal out of the dual winner Rely On Me who is herself the half-sister to five winners. The Rosemont Stud-based Starspangledbanner stood for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST) this year. 

5 additional lots made €50,000 or more including a filly by Coolmore Stud's Camelot who was bought by Jamie Railton Sales Agency for €72,000. The bay filly is out of the unraced Teofilo mare Lucht Na Gaeilge who is a half sister to 6 winners and from the family of Australian multiple Group 1 winner Serenade Rose and Stradbroke Handicap (Group 1) winner Trekking.

Sun Bloodstock who had been active at the recent Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale also purchased at Goffs on Monday going to €42,000 for lot 40 who is a daughter of their shuttler National Defense. The filly is out of the stakes placed Footstepsinthesand mare Wild Step.

Overall on Monday 158 of the 233 lots offered sold for €2,872,100 at an average of €18,178 and median of €14,000. The figures were comparable to the opening day last year when 145 lots sold for €2,682,500 at an average of €18,500 and median of €15,000. 

The sale continues on Tuesday.
