Heat 9, the first of the 2-year-old trials was won by Snitzel filly Heroess who scored a half-length win over Dizzy Devine, a daughter of Dissident, in a time of 48.93 for the 800 metres.
Having her first outing Heroess began nicely and showed pace to drive to the lead early under Tim Clark. She opened up a lead of 6 or so lengths and was still well clear into the straight. Dizzy Devine made up good ground in the closing stages however the winner was not asked much in the run to the line and the first 2 were well clear of the rest.
Heroess is the first foal out of Group 1 winning sprinter Srikandi and was a $400,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Andrew Williams Bloodstock from the draft of Kitchwin Hills.
Srikandi was herself bought by Tom Magnier for $2,000,000 at this year’s Inglis Chairman’s Sale.
The following heat was taken out by another son of Snitzel in Wild Ruler. He scored a length and a half win in a time of 48.99 for the 800 metres also under Tim Clark.
Wild Ruler, a $525,000 Inglis Easter purchase by China Horse Club, Newgate and WinStar from the draft of Kia Ora Stud, jumped well and took the lead before being joined by his stablemate War Memorial. The Snitzel colt then opened up a clear lead before the bend, was green in the straight but showed class and held his position all the way to the line.
War Memorial, a son of Fastnet Rock, who was yesterday ridden by Kerrin McEvoy was a $680,000 buy from the draft of Edinburgh Park by China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The colt’s Exceed And Excel half-brother will be offered at next year’s sale. In heat 11 I Am Invincible filly Sancy scored a three quarter length victory in a time of 47.93. The Canning Downs homebred was ridden by Tommy Berry and beat the Brad Widdup-trained Sebring filly Shaik.
The final of the 2-year-old trials was won by Written Tycoon colt Bartley. Ridden by McEvoy he beat Delago Deluxe filly Queen Dee in a time of 48.91 for the 800 metres. The winner began nicely on the inside and took up the early running before being overtaken by Queen Dee. Racing on the rails she opened up a lead of a couple of lengths over Bentley who drew level with her when into the straight. He was coming away from her at the line and scored by a neck with Pump It Up another 2 and a half lengths away in third.
Bartley was a $660,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy by China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock from the Arrowfield Stud draft who will offer his Shalaa half-brother on the Gold Coast in January.
