Australian-bred Run Fox Run wins Cape Flying Championship at Kenilworth
Woodside Park-based sire Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock) was represented by his fourth Group / Grade 1 winner when his Australian-bred daughter Run Fox Run (5 m ex Victory Cry by General Nediym) won the Cape Flying Championship (Gr 1, 1000m) at Kenilworth on Saturday.
The five-year-old mare, winner of the 2019 Southern Cross Stakes (Gr 2, 1000m), came into Saturday’s race having finished second in the Southern Cross Stakes on December 12 and beat Rio Querari (Querari) by three quarters of a length, with the favourite Celtic Sea (Captain Al) another three lengths back in third.
“It was a training feat carried out with military precision,” said winning jockey Anton Marcus. “Of course, it would be remiss of me if I didn’t give full credit to Run Fox Run,” he added.
Bred by Mill Park, Run Fox Run is one of 20 stakes winners by Foxwedge. She was bought by her trainer Brett Crawford and C Roscoe for $420,000 at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is out of the placed mare Victory Cry (General Nediym) who has produced three other winners including Listed winner Guard Of Honour (Northern Meteor).
Further back this is the family of Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Serious Speed (Royal Academy). Victory Cry was covered by Deep Field (Northern Meteor) last September having produced a colt by Written Tycoon (Iglesia).
Foxwedge stood for a fee of $11,000 (inc GST) at Woodside Park last year and he has three lots catalogued for the forthcoming Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
