Fee: $27,500 (inc GST)

Group 1 winner Alabama Express (Redoute's Choice) will stand at YuLong Stud in Victoria for the upcoming breeding season for a fee of $27,500 (inc GST).

The son of breed-shaping stallion Redoute's Choice (Danehill) broke his maiden at the first time of asking over 1112 metres at Sale - his only start as a juvenile.

Trained by Mike Moroney, the colt took out the Gothic Stakes (Listed, 1400m) on his third start as a three-year-old.

Having landed a handicap over 1100 metres first-up from a spell, Alabama Express then went on to emulate his sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill) in taking out the CF Orr Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) on February 8 - becoming the first three-year-old to land the Group 1 since All Too Hard (Casino Prince).

"He had a lot of his dad, Redoute's Choice, about him," said Moroney. "He was a great moving horse and to me, he was a standout on class. He's got all the hallmarks to make a great stallion – he's a Group 1 winner, he's athletic and he's a standout on type."

Alabama Express retired the winner of four of his eight career starts which saw him accumulate $554,750 in career prize-money.

Bought for $280,000 by Paul Moroney Bloodstock from the draft of Arrowfield Stud at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, he is out of Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Lago Ovation, who is herself a half-sister to Group 2-placed Rekindled Power (Redoute's Choice) and Group 3-placed Shuffle Up (Redoute's Choice).

Further back this is the family of dual Group 2 winner Rekindled Interest (Redoute's Choice), Group 3 winner Where We Left Off (Dr Devious) and Listed scorer Porticcio (Lomitas).

"Investing in a colt the quality of Alabama Express highlights the commitment of Mr Zhang to develop the strength of the Yulong stallion roster and the Melbourne breeding industry," chief operating officier Sam Fairgray said.

"Redoute's Choice is an Australian phenomenon, he is peerless in his achievements at stud and continues to build his legacy through exceptional sons and daughters. We couldn't be more delighted to secure a Group 1 WFA-winning son, who is built in the mould of his champion sire."
