Dual Group 1-winning Impending (Lonhro) retired to stand at Darley’s Northwood Park base in Victoria in 2018 the winner of five of his 18 starts, which saw him amass $2,403,989 in career prize-money.

Bred and raced by Godolphin, the son of Lonhro (Octagonal) got off the mark on debut as juvenile, before finishing third in the Ken Russell Memorial Classic (Gr 3, 1200m).

He kicked off his three-year-old season by finishing third in both the Run to the Rose (Gr 2, 1200m) and the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), while he then went to take out his first stakes win in the Stan Fox Stakes (Gr 2, 1500m), before finishing fourth in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m).

He was sent for a spell and brought back for the Sydney Autumn carnival and while he did not manage to win a race he produced four good performances, including finishing third in both the Star Kingdom Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) and Arrowfield 3YO Sprint Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m).

However it was the Queensland winter carnival later that year where Impending finally got his day in the sun, when he took out the first of his two Group 1 races when landing the Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m).

After being kept in training as a four-year-old, Impending produced some good performances, including running third in the VRC Darley Classic (Gr 1, 1200m).

Impending was then spelled until the Queensland carnival, a plan which paid off, after the four-year-old took out the BRC Victory Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), before being just denied his second elite level victory when beaten a head by English (Encosta De Lago) in the Doomben Ten Thousand Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m). However, he made amends for that defeat when taking out the Kingsford-Smith Cup (Gr 1, 1350m) on his next start.

Impending is out of dual Group 1-winning mare Mnemosyne (Encosta De Lago) mare, making him a brother to Listed winner Epidemic, while he is also a half-brother to Group 3 winner Forget (Exceed And Excel). His other half-sibling Erato (Street Cry) produced last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Lyre (Lonhro).
