The Jamie Richards-trained Synchronize (2 f Savabeel - Splits by O'Reilly) made the perfect start to her career when she proved too strong for her rivals in the NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Stakes (1050m) at Matamata on Wednesday.

The daughter of Savabeel (Zabeel) had been impressive in three trials victories prior to her raceday debut and she positively ridden from an inside draw by Danielle Johnson, before comfortably drawing clear the final stages to beat Show A Million (Showcasing) by a length and three-quarters, while Funny Girl (Showcasing) was another two and a quarter lengths away in third.

"She's a filly we've held in high regard for a fair while," Richards said.

"She was unbeaten at the trials, but we've taken our time with her. We felt the Matamata Breeders' Stakes was coming up a bit soon in February, so we freshened her and gave her a nice trial mid-March at Cambridge.

"It worked out well with her Pearl Series eligibility in winning the bonus and she was given a nice ride by Danielle. She attacked the line well, like a filly that's got a promising future."

The filly was purchased by Te Akau's David Ellis for NZ$280,000 at Book 1 of New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka 2020 from the Waikato Stud draft in 2020 and being out of unraced mare Splits (O'Reilly), the filly is another fine example of the potency of Savabeel when mated to daughters of O'Reilly (Last Tycoon).

The filly becomes the 106th winner bred on the cross and they include 20 stakes winners, headed by six Group 1 winners, including last week's Rosehill Guineas (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Mo'unga and this season's New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Amarelinha.

Splits has now produced four winners and she is out of dual Group 1 winner Legs (Pins), making her a sister to Listed winner Wolfwhistle.

Legs herself is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Guyno (O'Reilly) and the dam of fellow top-flight scorer Tiptronic (O'Reilly).

In 2020 Splits produced a filly by Savabeel's barnmate Ocean Park (Thorn Park).

Savabeel has 17 lots catalogued at the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, with six of them bred on the O'Reilly cross. The sale gets underway on Tuesday.
