Need I Say More (2 g ex Bo Bardi by Fastnet Rock) became the first Australian-bred stakes winner for his Coolmore Australia shuttle sire No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) when taking out Saturday's Waikato Stud Slipper (Gr 3, 1200m) at Matamata.

The Jamie Richards-trained gelding, who was impressive in winning on debut earlier this month, beat Cool Aza Beel (Savabeel) by two and a half lengths with Snapper (Power) in third.

"He's definitely a nice horse and really starting to come to it now," Richards said.

"He's needed a bit of time but he's by a very good stallion in No Nay Never out of a Fastnet Rock mare who had a lot of success.

"I don't think the favourite (Cool Aza Beel) will lose any admirers but full credit to the big chestnut horse."

He is now likely to aim Need I Say More at the Sistema Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Ellerslie on March 7.

The first foal out of winning Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Bo Bardi, Need I Say More's second dam is the US Listed winner Our Golden Dream (Medaglia d'Oro) who is a half-sister to dual Listed winner Icabad Crane (Jump Start). Further back this is the family of Grade 1 winner Rutherienne (Pulpit).

A $65,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale buy by Kilgravin Lodge from the draft of Burnewang North, Need I Say More was then bought by David Ellis for NZ$130,000 at Karaka Book 1 last year.

His Dissident (Sebring) half-sister is catalogued as Lot 549 for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale which runs at Oaklands Junction from March 1 to 3.

No Nay Never had a successful start to his stud career in the Northern Hemisphere, siring 18 stakes winners headed by the Group 1 winner Ten Sovereigns. He is standing for a fee of €175,000 at Coolmore Stud in County Tipperary having covered 83 mares at Coolmore's Hunter Valley farm last year for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).

The victory provided Fastnet Rock with his 24th stakes winner as a broodmare sire.
