Group 1 winner Super Seth (Dundeel) will stand at Waikato Stud for an introductory fee of NZ$35,000 (plus GST) in 2020, with the stud also releasing for their other stallions, Savabeel (Zabeel), Ocean Park (Thorn Park), Tivaci (High Chaparral) and Ardrossan (Redoute's Choice).

Waikato Stud principal Mark Chittick said they had considered keeping Super Seth in training, but with uncertainty around spring carnival racing programs they decided to retire the son of Dundeel (High Chaparral).

"He's all quality, a fantastic looking horse with the performance to match his pedigree," Chittick said.

"Top of our list when it comes to sourcing a successful stallion is a turn of foot and Super Seth's acceleration was mind-blowing. That was emphasized when he ran down Alligator Blood to win the Caulfield Guineas.

"Our past and present champion sires Centaine, O'Reilly, Pins, Savabeel and Ocean Park, all possessed incredible acceleration, but even they couldn't have matched Super Seth's turn of foot. That's the quality we look for and he demonstrated that on many occasions."

Super Seth retires from racing the winner of five of his 12 career starts with earnings of $1,648,460. Trained by Anthony Freedman, he broke his maiden on debut at Ballarat over 1200 metres in March 2019, scoring by six lengths and then won over the same distance at his second start the following month. He would have one more start at two, finishing third in the Anzac Day Stakes (Listed, 1400m).

Resuming at three, Super Seth won the HDF McNeil Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) last August and then three starts later defeated subsequent Group 1 winner Alligator Blood (All Too Hard) in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m). First up from a spell in February, he won the Manfred Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) and then finished a close second in the Futurity Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m). He was last seen finishing fourth in Saturday's All Aged Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m).

The colt was initially purchased as a yearling by Dean Hawthorne for $280,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud on behalf of Jonathan Munz's GSA Bloodstock.

"We typically don't buy many colts. In fact, he was the only colt we purchased that year in Australia, but when he walked out of the box at the Easter Sale it was obvious he was a must have," Hawthorne said.

"He is perfectly balanced. If you take a look at his yearling conformation photo you can see how beautifully balanced he is - a short-coupled colt with a great head and amazing quality.

"The other thing that immediately attracted me to him was how much he looked like Redoute's Choice. We were very confident Redoute's Choice mares would complement the Dundeel sire line."

Super Seth is one of three winners out of the Redoute's Choice (Danehill) mare Salutations, making him a half-brother to multiple Listed winner Wild Planet (Animal Kingdom). His second dam is Group 2 Toast Of The Coast (Rory's Jester) who is herself out of fellow Group 2 winner Solo Show (Dahar).

"Opportunities to get these quality stallions are very rare and when we saw that electric acceleration in the Caulfield Guineas we became immediately interested," Chittick said.

"Our Business Manager Mike Rennie was on course at the time and I told him to go and have a really good look at him. He had everything we look for in a racehorse with a stud career in mind."

Waikato Stud is the majority shareholder in Super Seth with partners JML Bloodstock, Milan Park, Nearco Stud, Pencarrow Stud and Richard Pegum.

"They are all obviously committed to supporting Super Seth with mares of the highest quality," Chittick said.

"The support and confidence was around us when we bought the horse, because we had to move pretty quickly, and he possesses every attribute we look for and chiefly that amazing turn of foot."

Waikato Stud salwart Savabeel will stand for a fee of NZ$100,000 (plus GST), with his book announced as closed when the farm announced their 2019 roster. The multiple champion sire has enjoyed another successful season on the racetrack and has now sired 20 Group 1 winners and his stakes winners to runners figure stands at an impressive 10.7 per cent.

Ocean Park, who was provided with his second Group 1 winner last Saturday when his daughter Tofane won the All Aged Stakes will stand at NZ$20,000 (plus GST), up from NZ$15,000 a year ago. The roster is completed by Tivaci and Ardrossan who will stand for NZ$12,500 (plus GST) and NZ$3,000 (plus GST) respectively.

Tivaci's first crop will hit the racetrack next season and his first yearlings were well received this year, selling for up to NZ$500,000. He stood for NZ$20,000 a year ago. Ardrossan meanwhile will have his first foals this spring.
