Dual Group 1 winner Contributor (High Chaparral) sired his first winner on Thursday when Lion's Roar (2 g ex Minnaleo by Black Minnaloushe) won on debut over 1200 metres at Wagga.

Raced by Champion Thoroughbreds and trained by John O'Shea, who trained Contributor to win the Chipping Norton Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) and Ranvet Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m), Lion's Roar beat Another One (Super One) by a long-neck with Mr Moppett (Sizzling) another two lengths back in third.

"Contributer was a very special horse to me and hopefully he will continue to be," O'Shea said. "I was delighted to train his first winner."

Lion's Roar was bought by Champion Thoroughbreds for NZ$65,000 at last year's Karaka National Yearling Sale - Book 2 from the draft of Wellfield Lodge. He becomes the second winner for his dam, the four-time winning Black Minnaloushe (Storm Cat) mare Minnaleo.

Lion's Roar's second dam is Group 1 winner The Mighty Lions (Grosvenor) who produced eight winners including the Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed Vaquera (High Chaparral).

Contributer stands at Mapperley Stud in New Zealand and his 2020 fee is yet to be announced. He won eight of his 18 starts and over $1 million in prize money racing over four seasons having originally begun his career in England where he broke his maiden over 1700 metres as a two-year-old.
