The Jamie Richards-trained Miss Aotearoa (3 f ex Danex by Danasinga) took the step into stakes company in her stride as she landed the Gold Trail Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Hastings on Saturday and in so doing became stakes winner number 16 for the Little Avondale Stud-based Per Incanto (Street Cry).

Last sighted breaking her maiden at the second time of asking at Taupo on August 12, the filly got the better of Sweet Anna (Tavistock), beating her by a neck, while Babylon Berlin (All Too Hard) finished another head away in third.

Richards was impressed with the victory by the filly who is being aimed at the New Zealand 1000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) at Riccarton in November, although he is not in any rush with her.

“She has a great pedigree page and it is all in front of her,” Richards said.

“We’ll take her home and assess her but we don’t have to rush into racing her again in a fortnight as she is a filly with a future.

“We might take a look at the Soliloquy Stakes and then down to Riccarton, all going well.

“I would like to thank Tony Rider who has been a good supporter and he now has another lovely, stakes-winning filly for his broodmare band.”

The filly is one of ten winners out of winning and Group 2 placed Danasinga (Danehill) mare Danex, whose progeny is headed by last year’s Matriarch Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m) winner Oceanex (Ocean Park) and she also produced Group 3 scorer Amexed (Pentire).

In 2019 Danex produced a colt by Coolmore Stud-based sire Pierro (Lonhro) and she was covered by his barnmate - the Triple Crown winner Justify (Scat Daddy) - last September.

Danex herself is also the grandam of Listed winner Saint Patrick’s Day (Excelebration) and she is also a half-sister to the dam of 2016 Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Ryan Mark (Thorn Park).

Per Incanto’s progeny is headed by three elite level winners; Shadows Cast, Dal Cielo and Santa Monica and he is standing at for a fee of NZ$15,000 (plus GST).
