Westbury Stud stud shuttler Reliable Man (Dalakhani) was handed his 14th stakes winner on Saturday as his daughter De La Terre (3 f ex Veva Girl by Fastnet Rock) prevailed in a close finish to win the Soliloquy Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) at Te Rapa.

The Team Rogerson-trained De La Terre snuck two lengths clear halfway down the Te Rapa straight and despite tiring in the final 100 metre had enough in reserve to hold out the challenge of Kahma Lass (Darci Brahma) by a nose with Tokorangi (Redwood) making up good ground from well back to finish third.

Co-trainer Graeme Rogerson said the filly would now likely tackle the New Zealand 1000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) on November 14.

“That was a super effort as we had to back off her a bit after she ran on the second day at Hastings,” Rogerson said.

“She jarred up a little bit so we gave her a short break. We had to run her last week to get her fitness back up as we’re heading to the 1000 Guineas at Riccarton.

“She should get down there now at one hundred percent. She’s a real tough filly and I don’t have any doubts that she will get the mile.

“It was a good effort and also by Ryan [Elliot] as it’s taken him some time to come back after the lockdown and then breaking his collarbone.

“He’s taken off 4.5kgs in the last ten days to get down to the weight today.”

Purchased by her trainers for NZ$55,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale from the Westbury Stud draft, the filly is one of four winners out of the unraced Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Veva Girl, making her a sister to Group 1-placed Aalaalune, while she is a half-sister to stakes-placed Black Thorn (Redwood).

Veva Girl herself is a daughter of Listed winner Barawin (Barathea). Further afield the filly hails from the same family as Jerezana (Lonhro) - the dam of Group 2 winner Osborne Bulls (Street Cry), meanwhile, fellow Group 2 winner Viridine (Poet’s Voice) also features on the page.

Team Rogerson purchased the filly’s sister for NZ$200,000 at this year’s New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale from the Westbury Stud draft and she has a weanling colt by the same sire. Reliable Man - who resides at Haras d'Annebault in the northern hemisphere - stands at Westbury Stud for a fee of NZ$15,000 (plus GST).
