The Terri Rae-trained Wekaforce (5 m ex Spera by Country Reel) produced an impressive performance to land the Pegasus Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Riccarton Park on Saturday and in the process became the 46th stakes winner for former Haunui Farm shuttler Showcasing (Oasis Dream).

The five-year-old mare found more under pressure when challenged by Kiwi Ida (Squamosa) and she scooted away to score by half a length with race favourite Sensei (Dream Ahead) charging into third a further half length away.

“I am absolutely over the moon as this has just been the most wonderful day,” breeder Janine Wallace said.

“It was just so nerve-wracking as I wasn’t sure who to cheer for (Wekaforce or Morweka) with the two of them in the race.

“We are just so grateful, incredibly blessed and just so thrilled for all the people involved.”

The mare is out of four time-winning mare Spera (Country Reel) and she becomes the first stakes winner in two generations of her family.

Wekaforce’s third dam is three-time winner Effie And Alice (Conquistarose), who is herself the grandam of Group 3 winner Leigh Valley (Bianconi), who in turn produced Group 1 winner Valley Girl (Mastercraftsman).

Further back, this is the same family as Group 1 winner Round The World (Sea Anchor), Group 3 scorers Gypsy Fair (Falkirk) and Beautiful Girl (Black Minnaloushe).

In 2018 Spera produced a sister to Wekaforce and has most recently foaled a filly by Little Avondale shuttler Time Test (Dubawi).

Showcasing’s progeny is headed by Group 1-winning trio Mohaather, Quiet Reflection and Advertise and he stands at Whitsbury Manor Stud where his fee in 2020 was advertised as £55,000.
