The Glen Harvey-trained Brix (2 f ex Somethymesoon by Postponed) produced a shock victory when she landed the Fasttrack Insurance Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Pukekohe on Saturday and in the process became Novara Park Stud-based Sweynesse’s (Lonhro) third stakes winner.

The filly showed an impressive burst of speed to beat Quattro Quinta (Darci Brahma) by a head, while Cool Change (Showcasing) was another three-quarters of a length away in third.

“I was confident she was one hundred percent ready to go,” Harvey said. “It is the first time she had drawn a proper gate and then Sam [Collett] gave her a beautiful ride.

“Funnily enough Sam is one of my oldest friends, but this is only the second horse she has ridden for me, so that was fantastic we could combine for my first stakes win.

“I’m also thrilled for her owners including Mr Caro who is on course today. He is ninety-one and finds it hard to go to race meetings but he’s here today and he’s now had his first winner.

“He’s got the trophy and it’s an awesome feeling to be able to do that for him.”

Harvey also saddled Miss Ipenema (Sacred Falls) to finish seventh in the race and the trainer said the pair will now head for a short break before turning his sights towards the Karaka Million 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) at Ellerslie in January.

“Both my horses have a freshen up now as they have had a big prep so far,” he said.

“The wide barrier really cost Miss Ipenema, who was on a hiding to nothing with a lot of speed inside her.

“They will both target the Karaka Million so we will tip them out and then bring them back for one run before we tackle that one.”

Purchased by his trainer for NZ$45,000 at the 2020 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, the filly is one of three winners out Group 3-placed mare Somethymesoon, a sister of dual stakes winner Post Thyme.

Brix joins Group 3 winner Bonita Aurelia and Listed winner Only Words as the Sweynesse’s other stakes winners and he is standing for a fee of NZ$$6,000 (plus GST).
