Regally-bred Cheaperthandivorce (3 f Savabeel - Boundless by Van Nistelrooy) got off the mark at the first time of asking as she shed her maiden status over 1400 metres at Arawa Park on Wednesday.

The Roger James and Robert Wellwood had finished second behind subsequent winner Explosively (Sweynesse) at her only trial performance and she put that experience to good use when beating Locomotion (Super Easy) by a length and three-quarters, while Cathay Nova (More Than Ready) was the same distance away in third.

“We were pleased with her trial leading into the race,” Robert Wellwood said. “The fact that the horse that beat her came out and won at Te Rapa gave us a bit of confidence.

“It was still impressive to see her perform so professionally on Wednesday and see her put them away so easily.”

The daughter of Savabeel (Zabeel) becomes the fourth winner out of 2008 New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m)-winning mare Boundless (Van Nistelrooy), whose progeny is headed by Listed scorer Richie McHorse (Redoute’s Choice).

Further back the filly’s third dam is Group 1 winner Limitless (Sir Tristram), who also produced Listed-winning pair Zero Limit (Star Way) and Twinkling (Star Way) and the dams of Group 1 winner Veyron (Thorn Park) and Group 3 scorer Dawn Patrol (Dawn Approach).

Boundless’ colt by Haunui Farm shuttler Belardo (Lope De Vega) was purchased by Stephen McKee for NZ$100,000 at this year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Karaka Yearling Sale.

Five-time champion sire Savabeel - who is standing at Waikato Stud for $100,000 (plus GST) - has 43 lots catalogued for next year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Karaka Yearling Sale.
