The Stephen Marsh-trained So Gorgeous (3 f So You Think - Alzira by Bertolini) shed her maiden status at the second time of asking as he landed the Don Griffiths Limited Maiden Stakes (1200m) at Tauranga on Friday and in the process handed her Satono Aladdin (Deep Impact) half-brother with a timely update before he goes through the ring at next year’s New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale.

The three-year-old filly came out on top of a close finish to beat Brimstone (Smart Missile) by a nose, while Honey Honey (Charm Spirit) was another four and a three-quarter lengths further back in third.

So Gorgeous was purchased by her trainer for NZ$120,000 at Book 1 of the New Zealand Karaka National Yearling Sale in 2019 and she is out of the unraced Bertolini (Danzig) mare Alzira, making her a half-sister to four winners.

Alzira is a daughter of 1996 New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Alacrity (Grosvenor) and she also produced dual Group 3 winner Pendragon (Elnadim).

Meanwhile, Alacrity is a half-sister dual Group 3 scorer The Bullfighter (Aurealis) as well as Listed scorer Sympose (Imposing).

GB Sherer purchased Alzira’s filly by Iffraaj (Zafonic) for NZ$32,000 at this year’s New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale, she is now named Rita Bonita and is unraced. Haunui Farm will offer the mare’s aforementioned colt by Satono Aladdin at Book 2 of this year’s Karaka Sale and he is catalogued as Lot 715

So You Think has 35 yearlings catalogued at next year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while he has ten set to go through the ring during Book 1 of the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Yearling Sale.
