Fresh from siring a stakes double last weekend, former Haunui Farm shuttler Showcasing (Oasis Dream) was handed his 49th stakes winner on Saturday as four-year-old daughter Showoroses (4 m ex Rodrigo Rose by Rodrigo De Triano) added coveted black-type to her record in the Cal Isuzu Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Te Rapa.

Last seen running second Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders (Gr 2, 1400m), the Joanne Surgenor-trained four-year-old mare was not for catching, despite the efforts of Supera (Savabeel), who tried her best to reel her in, but she eventually finished two and a quarter lengths adrift in second. Supreme Heights (Jimmy Choux) was another length further back in third.

“I have so many people to thank including everyone who has helped me out over the last two months.

“It’s been hard work but we’re here and we’ve won a Group 2 so thank you everybody.

“She has a really good turn of foot and needs to get in front, not be held up and has a kick to go.

“It was a huge run last start after being held up and then flying home for second.

“She improved off that so here we are.”

Surgenor is eyeing a tilt at the Rich Hill Mile (Gr 2, 1600m) at Ellerslie on January 1 as the mare’s next target.

“This is the first time she has gone well at Te Rapa so I was a bit nervous but as long as she pulls up well then Ellerslie will be next.”

The mare is one of three winners out of Group 3 scorer Rodrigo Rose (Rodrigo De Triano), who was also placed at Group 1 level on two occasions, and she is herself the daughter of Listed winner Rosebrook (Vain).

Showcasing’s progeny is headed by Group 1-winning trio Quiet Reflection, Advertise and Mohaather and he will stand at Whitsbury Manor Stud for a fee of £45,000 in 2021, while his son Mohaather will join Shadwell Stud’s Nunnery Stud roster for next year’s breeding season.
