Quattro Quinta lands Wellesley Stakes.
The Jamie Richards-trained Quattro Quinta (2 g ex Quintette by Alamosa) produced a brave performance to win the Wellesley Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Trentham on Saturday and in the process chalked up the 51st stakes winner for The Oaks Stud resident Darci Brahma (Danehill).
Last seen running second in the Challenge Stakes (Listed, 1100m), the gelding got his head in front at stakes level when beating Wolfgang (Puccuni) by a nose, while Magneto (Showcasing) was another two lengths away in third.
Trainer Jamie Richards was pleased with the effort from his charge who was having his first run since finishing second at Pukekohe back in November.
"He's a real little racehorse," Richards said.
"I think we have to make the most of him this season as I'm not sure if he has the scope to train on.
"It was a good strong effort, helped by the fact he found the rail, which is a big assist to the two-year-olds.
"He will go to the Matamata Slipper now and then on to Auckland and Manawatu."
The two-year-old gelding is one of two winners out of winning Alamosa (O'Reilly) mare Quintette, who is herself a half-sister to Group 2 winner Everswindell (Align).
Further back Listed-winning trio Shaquille (Blazing Keel), Best Yet To Come (Econsul) and Major Decision (Zamazaan) also feature on the page.
Last breeding season Quintette produced a filly by Newhaven Park Stud-based Xtravagant (Pentire) and was covered again by the sire in 2020.
Darci Brahma has nine lots catalogued at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka 2021 - Book 1 Sale.
