Let's Elope (Nassipour) - who won the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) and Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) in 1991 - will be inducted into the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame on May 2.

Trained by champion trainer Bart Cummings, Let’s Elope will join Carbine (Musket) (1890), Phar Lap (Night Raid) (1930), Rising Fast (Alonzo) (1954), Might And Power (Zabeel) (1997) and Ethereal (Rhythm) (2001) as previous inductees with the Group 1 Melbourne Cup on their resumes.

Let’s Elope was purchased for $20,000 at the 1989 Magic Millions Trentham Yearling Sale, consigned by her breeder Brent Gillovic’s Highview Stud.

“We sent two mares to Nassipour, Sharon Jane and Constella, and we got a chestnut filly and a bay colt. They turned out to be Let’s Elope and (Brisbane Cup winner) Grooming,” Gillovic told NZ Racing Desk.

“Let’s Elope was always a good type, a big filly, very deep-bodied with a nice walk. She was bought by the Fleiter family from Adelaide and they sent her to the O’Sullivans.”
