The Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale concluded in Deauville on Monday.

Figures up from 2018. The Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale concluded in Deauville on Monday evening with figures up from the 2018 record breaking sale. 

In 2019 701 horses were sold at a clearance rate of 76%. The aggregate was up 3% to €34,426,500 whilst the average showed a small 1% increase to €49,111. 

The fourth and final day on Tuesday was for National Hunt stock and was topped by a Grade 2 winning mare, A Mi Manera, who was bought by Nicolas Bertran de Balanda for €120,000. 

Two lots broke the €1,000,000 mark earlier in the week with Frankel Light selling for €1,300,000 and Unaided bought for €1,250,000. 

BBA Ireland were the leading buyer having bought 15 lots for €2,542,500 whilst Etreham were the leading vendors having sold 19 lots for €3,937,000. 

Reflecting on the four days of trade, Arqana president Eric Hoyeau said: "It's been a thrilling four days and I take a bow to the tremendous work put on by our vendors and consignors to bring such attractive horses to the ring.

"The appetite for French breeding stock has probably never been higher, as exemplified by the demand for foals by Almanzor, Wootton Bassett or Shalaa, mares in foals to Siyouni or Le Havre, families from our leading breeders as well as National Hunt stock. We have welcomed a record number of buyers from Europe and beyond including many first-time visitors which is a brilliant credit to the efforts of our bloodstock team and international representatives.

"Last but not least, the efficiency of our customers service has made light work of the public transport strike and enabled all our clients to make the most of their stay in the unique location that is Deauville. Let me wish everyone a pleasant festive season and quality time with their families."
